Vilnius District to attempt street renaming for a third time
The Vilnius District Municipality is preparing to attempt the renaming of streets named after Henrikas Gulbinovičius for a third time. Two draft decisions are expected to be registered by the municipal administration this week.
The administration stated that these repeated attempts are intended to follow good public administration practices and to save administrative costs associated with ongoing litigation. The matter is currently being reviewed by the Regional Administrative Court, where a government representative is seeking to annul previous decisions regarding the street names.
Vilnius District Mayor Robertas Duchnevičius expressed a moral obligation to reconsider the renaming in the council. He noted that the issue has become increasingly polarized within the local council, particularly involving the Lithuanian Polish Electoral Action-Christian Families Union (LLRK-KŠS) faction, which has previously opposed the changes.
