Bayern Munich defeats Aston Villa 2-1 in Hong Kong pre‑season friendly
FC Bayern Munich completed its Asian pre‑season tour with a 2‑1 victory over Europa League champions Aston Villa at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park on 7 August 2026. Kim Min‑jae opened the scoring with a header in the 37th minute and Luis Díaz added a second in the 73rd after coming on as a substitute. Aston Villa reduced the deficit through João Gomes, but Manuel Neuer’s late save preserved the win.
Coach Vincent Kompany reiterated Bayern’s ambition to win the UEFA Champions League this season, calling the match a key test ahead of the German domestic campaign. The tour also featured a call from club president Herbert Hainer for all Bundesliga clubs to increase overseas trips, arguing that internationalisation should be a collective effort.
Fans in Hong Kong experienced technical problems with the club’s paid livestream, which suffered delays and picture glitches, prompting an apology from Bayern and demands for refunds. Despite the broadcast issues, a fan festival organised by Paulaner attracted supporters from nine countries, highlighting the club’s growing global following.
