VinFast expands EV presence with luxury SUV in India and budget model in Europe

VinFast is expanding its global electric vehicle footprint with strategic moves in both the Indian and European markets. In India, the company is preparing to launch the VF9, a premium three-row luxury SUV. The VF9 features a 123kWh battery, dual electric motors producing 402hp, and an estimated range of up to 626km. The model supports DC fast charging, capable of reaching a 70% charge in approximately 35 minutes. VinFast has already gained traction in India, reportedly ranking fourth in the market with 2,200 registrations in August.

In Europe, VinFast is considering a shift toward more affordable segments by potentially introducing the VF2, a compact electric city car. To compete effectively and meet local regulations, the VF2 may need to be adapted to quadricycle standards, which could involve reducing motor power and battery size to keep the weight under 450kg (excluding the battery). This strategy aims to position the vehicle at a price point potentially below 10,000 euros to compete with low-cost electric offerings.
