Bajaj and VinFast unveil electric motorcycle expansions in Asia

Indian two‑wheel maker Bajaj Auto announced that its first fully electric motorcycle will be launched in fiscal year 2028, with production slated to begin in April 2027. The move expands the group’s electric lineup beyond the Chetak scooter, which already holds a 20.7 % market share and is seeing increased monthly output. Bajaj plans to target the growing electric motorcycle segment despite competition from TVS, Hero and Ather.

Vietnamese EV producer VinFast is also widening its electric two‑wheel portfolio. Patent filings in India reveal a new medium‑sized electric motorcycle distinct from its existing scooters, aimed at the country’s large motorcycle market. In Indonesia, VinFast has registered four additional electric motorcycle designs and opened 20 e‑bike showrooms in major cities, offering models such as Evo, Feliz II and Viper with battery‑swap capability. Together, the initiatives mark a coordinated push by two major Asian manufacturers into the rapidly expanding electric motorcycle market.
