VinFast's Indian sales eclipse Tesla, reaching 1,394 units in June

Vietnamese automaker VinFast sold 1,394 electric vehicles in India in June 2026, securing roughly a 4% market share and ranking fifth overall in the country's EV market. The volume puts VinFast ahead of Chinese competitor BYD, which delivered 860 units, and far ahead of Tesla, which sold about 35 vehicles in the same period – a gap of nearly 40‑times.

In the same quarter, Tesla recorded a global delivery record of 480,126 cars, exceeding analysts' forecasts by 25%. Despite the strong delivery numbers, Tesla's share price fell 7.5% on the news, marking its worst trading day in nearly a year and continuing a three‑quarter streak of stock declines. Investors are waiting for the company's profit report on July 22 to see whether the delivery surge translates into earnings growth.
