Vietnam announces preservation plans for special national monuments

Authorities in Vietnam have announced new preservation and restoration plans for two special national monuments.

The plan for the Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Tomb and Memorial covers 35.2 hectares. It aims to protect the historical and cultural values of the site where the UNESCO-honored poet lived and worked. The development will include a traditional medicine clinic, a lotus pond, a herbal garden, and spaces for traditional Southern Vietnamese performing arts, utilizing local materials to maintain the site's original character.

Additionally, a comprehensive preservation plan has been approved for the Đồng Khởi Bến Tre special national monument, covering a research area of 9,000 hectares. This plan focuses on restoring historical sites associated with the 1960 Đồng Khởi movement and developing the surrounding landscape for tourism. Key focus areas include the Đồng Khởi Traditional House, Định Nhơn communal house, and various historical battle sites, alongside the reconstruction of historical spaces such as guerrilla villages and military posts.
