Vietnam national monument preservation efforts

Overview

Vietnam has initiated several preservation and restoration plans for various special national monuments and historical sites.

Initial efforts focused on large-scale projects, including a 35.2-hectare plan for the Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Tomb and Memorial to protect the poet’s cultural legacy through the addition of traditional medicine clinics and performing arts spaces. Additionally, a 9,000-hectare plan was approved for the Đồng Khởi Bến Tre monument to restore sites associated with the 1960 movement and develop historical battle sites for tourism.

Subsequent efforts have targeted specific regional sites. In Hue, proposals were submitted to repair the degraded Tuy Ly Vuong worship temple, with conservation experts emphasizing that repairs must prioritize reinforcement of original structures. In Quang Ngai province, a 50 billion VND project was approved to renovate the Pham Van Dong Memorial Complex, focusing on exhibition halls and the former residence of the late Prime Minister to promote cultural tourism.
