Vinh Long begins search for martyr remains at city park

Authorities in Vinh Long province have launched an excavation operation at Vinh Long City Park to search for the remains of approximately 10 soldiers who died during the 1968 Tet Offensive. The mission is part of a broader “500-day campaign” to intensify the search, collection, and identification of martyr remains.

The search is guided by testimonies from veterans who witnessed the events over 50 years ago. Witnesses, including veteran Tran Ngoc Son and Le Hoang Vinh, provided accounts of how the remains were moved and disposed of by former regime forces near the old Dat Thanh Tay cemetery area. These accounts have been vital in identifying the specific locations for excavation.

The operation involves the K90 Team of Military Region 9 and the provincial Military Command. Following the excavation, any recovered remains will undergo biological sampling and documentation for identification. This effort is supported by a multi-platform information network that has received tens of thousands of calls and messages from families and veterans seeking to locate missing soldiers.
