Violence and hazing allegations reported at Mexican rural normal schools

Allegations of violence and hazing have surfaced involving rural normal schools in Mexico. In Saucillo, a mother reported that her daughter suffered physical injuries and emotional distress at the Escuela Normal Rural de Saucillo. The student required ambulance transport to a hospital for medical attention. The complainant further alleged that students from the Normal de Aguilera were present and participated in acts of harassment and violence against female students.

In response to historical incidents of hazing that have escalated to acts of torture and cruelty, the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) has issued recommendations to the Escuela Normal Rural ‘Carmen Serdán’ in Teteles de Ávila Camacho. Following a meeting with the Student Council, the SEP prohibited practices such as deprivation of liberty, harassment, or limiting access to food and water. The Comisión Estatal de Derechos Humanos will monitor the situation to address any violations of student dignity or safety.
