Violence erupts at APOEL vs AEL football match in Cyprus
Violence erupted during and after a Cypriot championship football match between APOEL and AEL at the GSP Stadium. While APOEL secured a 6-0 victory, the event was marred by serious incidents involving spectators.
A 10-year-old girl was injured after being struck in the head by a battery allegedly thrown from the AEL supporters' section. She was treated at Nicosia General Hospital and subsequently discharged. During the ensuing unrest outside the stadium, where fans exchanged stones and other objects, a police officer was also injured and transported to the hospital for medical care.
Authorities have made several arrests, including one individual linked to the battery throwing and another for participation in the riots. One supporter was also caught in possession of a flare. Police are continuing investigations to identify all those involved in the incidents.
