Violence in Mexicali and Montería: Police assassination and major jewelry robbery

In Mexicali, Mexico, José Ramón Barajas Félix, a subcommander of the Municipal Police Immediate Reaction Group, was assassinated on Tuesday. The attack occurred at a residence in the Oviedo Mota Reacomodo ejido, where neighbors reported hearing approximately 20 gunshots. Two hooded individuals arrived in a gray pickup truck and fled the scene following the shooting. Authorities from the State Investigation Agency and the State Citizen Security Force have deployed operations in the area, though the motive and any suspects remain unconfirmed.

In Montería, Colombia, authorities are searching for suspects involved in a major robbery at the Mazal jewelry store. Two men fled the establishment with suitcases containing jewelry and cash, with estimated losses reaching approximately 1.8 billion pesos. Surveillance footage allowed the Metropolitan Police of Montería to identify the getaway vehicle as a gray pickup truck. A perimeter lockdown has been activated, extending patrols to neighboring municipalities such as Cereté and Planeta Rica, though the vehicle and suspects have not yet been located.
