Violence in Mexico: Double homicide in Oaxaca and police attack in Guanajuato

A series of violent incidents involving shootings has been reported in Oaxaca and Guanajuato. In Oaxaca, a couple was killed on Saturday night in the Ejidal neighborhood of San Martín Mexicapan. The victims were identified as 36-year-old Jesús A. C., a local corn vendor, and his 30-year-old partner, Rosalba. The attack occurred while they were traveling on a cargo motorcycle, which was intercepted by individuals on another vehicle. The Oaxaca Prosecutor's Office is reviewing C5 camera footage to identify the perpetrators.

In Guanajuato, municipal police officers in Yuriria were targeted in a shooting on Thursday night. While conducting surveillance on the Valle de Santiago–Yuriria highway, officers were fired upon by occupants of a white Ford Ranger pickup truck. Although the officers returned fire and the patrol vehicle sustained bullet impacts, no officers were injured. The attack occurred near the discovery of a man found dead inside a vehicle in the Puquichapio area. Authorities are investigating whether the shooting of the officers and the homicide are linked.
