Violent attacks on public service workers in Moldova and Romania

In Maramureș County, Romania, ambulance and hospital staff have faced a series of physical assaults. Incidents include the stabbing of an ambulance worker on 15 June and earlier beatings of SMURD crew members in early May. Authorities say police and gendarmerie intervene, but there is no clear legislation to protect medical personnel, leading the regional ambulance service to call for stronger safeguards.

In Bălţi, Moldova, a conscript trainee was shot in the abdomen during a training exercise at the Infantry Motorized Brigade “Moldova” training centre. The injury resulted from an accidental discharge of a pistol by a fellow soldier. The Ministry of Defence has opened an investigation into the incident.
