Violent incidents in Peru and Colombia: homicide in Cañete and drone attack in Risaralda
Two separate violent incidents were reported in South America. In the district of Nuevo Imperial, Cañete, Peru, two men were found dead with gunshot wounds near an irrigation ditch in the community of Carmen Alto. The victims were identified as 39‑year‑old Elmer Moisés de la Cruz Gutiérrez and 26‑year‑old Jesús Snayder Huamani Taquiri. Police secured the scene, recovered a box of beer and a silver Changan vehicle, and began investigations, though no arrests had been announced.
In Risaralda, Colombia, a police substation in the Santa Cecilia corregimiento of Pueblo Rico was targeted twice by explosives dropped from a drone early on Saturday. The attacks caused no injuries to police or civilians, and the police station remained operational. Authorities attributed the incident to the ELN‑linked criminal group Manuel Hernández El Boche and intensified security operations with the army in the area.
Both events prompted police and forensic investigations, but no immediate arrests were reported.
