Viorel Rabei appointed to Prime Minister's Control Body

Viorel Rabei, a former infrastructure advisor to ex-premier Dorin Recean, has been appointed to the Prime Minister's Control Body under Vasile Tofan. His appointment became effective on August 18, 2026.

Rabei previously served as a principal consultant in the legal department of the Ministry of Finance starting in July 2026. His recent return to a government role follows the resignation of previous members of the Control Body in June, which occurred amid issues at the Public Property Agency and various state enterprises.

According to his 2025 wealth declaration, Rabei reported a salary of approximately 286,000 lei from the State Chancellery, alongside income from expertise activities and board memberships at SA “Drumuri Cahul” and IS “EHGeoM”. His assets include a house, a garage, land, an Audi, and a BMW i3. The declaration also lists donations of 10,000 and 24,500 euros from vehicle sales, a grant exceeding 20,000 USD from the US Department of State, and an allowance from Romania.
