Virgin Atlantic Engineer Georgie Buxton Dies After Heathrow Accident

Georgie Buxton, a 23‑year‑old Virgin Atlantic aircraft technician, was injured on 11 June 2026 at Heathrow Airport when a piece of machinery struck him in the face. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and, despite multiple surgeries, died at St Mary’s Hospital on 7 July 2026.

Senior coroner Lydia Brown opened an inquest into the death and suspended it pending a criminal investigation by the Metropolitan Police in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive. The coroner noted that the post‑mortem confirmed a cranio‑facial trauma.

Virgin Atlantic issued a statement saying the company is “heart‑broken” and expressed condolences to Buxton’s family, friends and colleagues, while affirming that safety and employee wellbeing remain top priorities.
