Virgin Atlantic engineer Georgie Buxton dies after Heathrow maintenance accident
Georgie Buxton, a 23‑year‑old aircraft engineer employed by Virgin Atlantic, was injured on 11 June 2026 while performing maintenance on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner in a hangar at London’s Heathrow Airport. Heavy machinery collapsed on him, crushing him inside the aircraft’s fuel tank. He was rushed to hospital, remained in intensive care for four weeks and was taken off life support on 7 July 2026, when he died.
The Metropolitan Police Aviation Policing Unit and the UK Health and Safety Executive have opened a joint investigation. Virgin Atlantic issued a statement expressing that the employee was a “much‑loved” member of its engineering team, pledged support to his family, and said it is working closely with the authorities and Boeing to determine the cause. An inquest is due to be held at West London Coroner’s Court.
