Vishay introduces top-side cooled automotive power resistor

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced the Sfernice D2TO35S, an automotive-grade thick-film power resistor designed with a top-side cooling mount. Housed in a surface-mount TO-263 (D2PAK) package, the component is engineered to transfer heat directly to a heatsink rather than relying solely on PCB-based cooling.

The D2TO35S delivers a power dissipation of 35 W at 25 °C. By utilizing top-side cooling, the device can achieve up to nine times greater power dissipation than standard PCB-mounted components when paired with an appropriate heatsink. This architecture is intended to reduce board space requirements, lower PCB temperatures, and minimize thermal stress on adjacent components.

Key technical specifications include a resistance range from 4.7 Ω to 550 kΩ, tolerances as low as ±1%, and a wide operating temperature range from -55 °C to +175 °C. The resistor features a non-inductive design to improve signal integrity during fast transient conditions and is AEC-Q200 qualified for automotive-grade supply chains.
