Visión Nación calls for reform of Dominican Republic party system
José Christopher, president of the Visión Nación party, has proposed a reform to the political party system in the Dominican Republic. He is calling for the removal of public funding and legal status from 96 minority political organizations.
Christopher characterized these groups as “hinge parties” or “rental parties” that allegedly use state resources to serve private interests rather than the public good. He argued that these practices weaken the democratic system and erode citizen trust.
In addition to his proposal, Christopher issued a challenge to the Fuerza Nacional Progresista (FNP), stating he is prepared for public debate regarding these systemic changes. He also called upon civil society, religious leaders, and the political class to collaborate on strengthening political organizations and increasing oversight of public funds.
