Vision health programs expand access for adolescents in Spain and Argentina

In Spain, the second phase of the Plan Veo is underway, providing up to 100 euros per year for children and adolescents up to age 16 to purchase corrective eyewear, contact lenses, and maintenance solutions. The program has received an additional 23 million euro investment, bringing its total funding to 73 million euros since its launch last year. Beneficiaries include those with public health cards or members of MUFACE, MUGEJU, and ISFAS. Participating optical shops, such as Ópticas Reinavisión, allow families to manage aid directly without extra paperwork. The program is scheduled to run until December 31, 2026.

In Argentina, the Plan de Salud Visual is deploying mobile units across the Neuquén province to provide basic ophthalmological checks and free glasses. This joint operation between national and provincial health teams targets adolescents aged 10 to 17 who lack health insurance. The mobile units function as optical laboratories, performing visual acuity tests and providing immediate delivery of prescription glasses. The initiative covers various locations, including Chos Malal, Zapala, and San Martín de los Andes, through early October.
