Visma | Lease a Bike loses leader Jonas Vingegaard after Tour de France crash
Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard, the general classification leader of the Visma | Lease a Bike team, crashed on a descent in stage 15 of the Tour de France. Medical examinations confirmed a broken clavicle, forcing him to abandon the race.
Dutch analyst Thijs Zonneveld highlighted a pattern of declining descending performance for Vingegaard, noting on his podcast that "you could see he was slow, I wanted to pass him" and that the rider appeared increasingly anxious on downhill sections.
With Vingegaard out, Italian climber Davide Piganzoli, who previously supported Vingegaard’s Giro d’Italia win, became the team's highest‑placed rider, sitting 15th in the overall classification, about 25 minutes behind race leader Tadej Pogačar. Piganzoli acknowledged the team's lack of a “plan B” and stressed the difficulty of the Tour’s final week, while still targeting stage victories.
The incident leaves Visma | Lease a Bike without its designated leader for the remainder of the race.
