Italy regional updates: infrastructure, water, and mobility
Various regional and local developments are underway across Italy, focusing on infrastructure, water management, and urban mobility.
In Calabria, the regional government has allocated 4.9 million euros to modernize the Soverato wastewater treatment plant to protect the Ionian Sea ecosystem. Meanwhile, in Reggio Calabria, local councilors have requested an extraordinary session to discuss Anas's design proposals for the SS 106 highway, a critical artery for regional mobility. In Cosenza, the Valle Crati Consortium is seeking technical discussions with regional authorities to address water service disruptions caused by reduced aqueduct flow.
In the logistics sector, Rhenus is planning to consolidate its operations at the Padova Interporto by early 2027, creating a 10,000-square-meter hub for transport and warehousing. In La Spezia, the Port Authority is moving toward the final authorization phases for major infrastructure investments, including the expansion of the La Spezia Container Terminal.
Urban mobility and public health concerns are also prominent. In Viterbo, citizens are protesting over water quality and the potential privatization of the Talete water utility. In Florence, the municipality has allocated 600,000 euros for the maintenance of existing cycling paths. In Carpi, a 205,000-euro investment will expand secure bicycle storage near the train station, while Montesilvano faces scrutiny over the safety of new pedestrian and cycle paths funded by the PNRR.
