Viterbo launches permanent exhibition of historic shops

On Sunday 26 July 2026 at 11 a.m., the city of Viterbo inaugurated a permanent exhibition dedicated to its historic shops inside the Valle Faul Gallery, the tunnel‑elevator that connects Valle Faul with Piazza San Lorenzo. The project, promoted by the Comune di Viterbo, curated by Spazio Viterbo and funded by the Regione Lazio, displays 32 photographs documenting the activities, places, faces and details of long‑standing commercial establishments that shape the city's cultural identity.

Alongside the exhibition, a bilingual agenda of the historic shops, a new interactive map of the shops and city‑center services, and a guide for residents and tourists were presented. A commemorative volume titled “Botteghe storiche di Viterbo” was also released and donated to local institutions. During the ceremony, mayor Chiara Frontini highlighted the initiative’s importance for cultural promotion and tourism, and awards were handed to the 32 participating historic shops.

The event aims to preserve commercial memory, foster cultural tourism and strengthen Viterbo’s historic identity.
