Cultural heritage preservation in Viterbo

Overview

The city of Viterbo has undertaken several initiatives to preserve and promote its cultural heritage. In late July 2026, the municipality inaugurated a permanent exhibition at the Valle Faul Gallery featuring 32 photographs of the city’s historic shops. This project included the release of a commemorative volume, a bilingual agenda, and an interactive map to support cultural tourism.

Following this, authorities addressed the maintenance of historical monuments. After an incident on July 26 where an emblem fell from the Porta della Verità, the remaining emblem was moved to the Museo Civico for restoration. Mayor Chiara Frontini noted that while restoration was budgeted in December, the recent incident prompted immediate action. The administration is also monitoring other historical sites, such as Porta Romana and Piazza del Comune.
