Viterbo receives €36 million for water infrastructure and establishes consumer watchdog

The Italian province of Viterbo will receive €36.28 million to upgrade its water infrastructure, announced by Deputy Mauro Rotelli. The funds will secure a dam on the Timone stream, digitise and monitor aqueducts with smart meters, and integrate the Le Vene‑Bisenzio‑Piancastagnaio water scheme, aiming to reduce losses, improve water quality and support agriculture.

In parallel, the province inaugurated the Integrated Water Service Consumer Protection Body (OTUC). Roberto Marchetti and Massimiliano Astarita were elected president and vice‑president. The OTUC, comprising representatives of recognized consumer associations, will handle complaints, promote dialogue between citizens and the water manager, and work to improve service quality.

Both measures are part of the national plan for water sector investment and signal a focus on strengthening water services and user protection in the Tuscia region.
