Vladimir Putin addresses Russian fuel shortages following Ukrainian strikes
Russian President Vladimir Putin has acknowledged that fuel market issues resulting from Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure are not yet fully resolved. Speaking in a televised interview, Putin stated that while certain inconveniences exist for the population, the government is working to manage the situation through a special commission and oversight by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
Russian authorities previously described the current situation as the ‘second phase’ of a fuel crisis triggered by intensified Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries. Reports indicate that fuel shortages have led to queues at gas stations in Moscow and restrictions on sales by certain chains. In an effort to stabilize the market, the Russian government has authorized the sale of Euro-2 gasoline, which falls below standard quality levels.
While Putin had previously attempted to minimize the impact of these strikes, he has since admitted they damage the national economy and create supply tensions in various regions.
