Vladimir Putin claims Russian military advances amid economic impact of drone strikes

Russian President Vladimir Putin has asserted that Russian forces are gaining ground on the battlefield, expressing confidence that the enemy will collapse. He reported that in August, Russian forces seized 270 square kilometers in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine and claimed that two large Ukrainian units are currently under encirclement.

Addressing the economic consequences of Ukrainian drone strikes, Putin stated that the cost of the recent 40-day campaign is approximately 1% of Russia's GDP, a figure he characterized as not critical. However, he acknowledged significant disruptions to logistics and infrastructure. The attacks have impacted Russia's oil sector, with roughly 10% of refineries requiring repairs, and have affected maritime shipping.

Reports indicate that approximately 100 Russian vessels were damaged, and crude oil shipments via sea dropped to 3.46 million barrels per day during a recent four-week period. Furthermore, operations in the Black Sea have been disrupted, affecting grain, steel, and coal exports, including the suspension of activities at three major grain terminals in Novorossiysk following drone strikes.
