Vladimir Putin heads Russia-ASEAN summit in Kazan, focusing on bilateral ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin is presiding over a Russia‑ASEAN summit in Kazan from June 17‑19, 2026, marking the 35th anniversary of Moscow’s dialogue partnership with the Southeast Asian bloc. The meeting brings leaders from the 10 ASEAN member states – Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Brunei – as well as a Belarusian delegation and a representative of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

During the three‑day event, Putin will hold a series of bilateral talks covering security, trade, investment, humanitarian cooperation and energy supplies, with particular attention to ensuring continued oil deliveries to Malaysia. The summit occurs amid heightened Western pressure for Russia to negotiate an end to its war in Ukraine and under the strain of international sanctions, prompting Moscow to deepen political and economic links with Asian partners.
