Businessman Vladimir Yanakov was found dead in his home in Bankya after a fire that investigators say was deliberately set to destroy evidence. Police have opened a pre‑trial investigation for intentional homicide under article 116 of the Bulgarian Criminal Code.

Former investigator Andrey Tsvetanov stated that forensic evidence shows a violent death and that the perpetrators attempted to erase traces with fire, oil and water. Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev announced that suspects have been identified and the investigation is active.
