Vålerenga announces sanctions following stadium vandalism

Vålerenga football club has announced strict measures following significant vandalism and security breaches at Åråsen Stadion during a recent derby match against Lillestrøm. The damage, caused by away supporters following a 0-2 defeat, included destroyed toilets, broken seats, damaged LED advertising boards, and harm to the pitch caused by flares and pyrotechnics.

In a joint statement, the club leadership described the incidents as “more than a scratch on Vålerenga’s reputation,” noting that such behavior discourages other fans from attending and alienates commercial partners. To address the situation, the club’s security chief has summoned all supporter groups to meetings to enforce a zero-tolerance policy.

Vålerenga is currently working to identify individuals involved in the vandalism to initiate sanction cases and supporter bans. The club is also in discussions with Lillestrøm regarding compensation for the damages. Additionally, Vålerenga has responded to a delegate report from the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) and is awaiting further processing by the prosecution committee.
