Völklingen and Bayreuth advance cycling initiatives in Germany
Mayor Stephan Tautz led a 25‑kilometre guided bike tour through Völklingen on 30 May‑19 June 2026 as part of the Stadtradeln 2026 campaign. Seventeen participants followed a mostly traffic‑free route that passed historic sites such as the former mining shaft, a nature trail, senior‑care homes and a new sculpture, with information points highlighting the town’s heritage and recent developments.
In Bayreuth, a five‑hour evaluation by the AGFK Bayern commission confirmed the city’s continued status as a “bicycle‑friendly municipality” for the next seven years. The commission praised Bayreuth’s comprehensive mobility concept, dedicated bike lanes, a bike‑park at the main station, winter service plans, and other infrastructure, while recommending clearer signage at construction sites and updated bike‑city maps.
