Vietnam economy: VND appreciates as stock market faces pressure

Vietnam's financial landscape is experiencing significant shifts across currency, equity, and real estate markets. The Vietnamese Dong (VND) has appreciated by approximately 1.12% against the USD, a move attributed to effective monetary policy management by the State Bank of Vietnam and a weakening US Dollar.

In the stock market, the VN-Index has faced downward pressure, recently dropping over 14 points to close at 1,738.97. Analysts from KB Vietnam Securities have lowered their year-end target for the VN-Index to 1,800 points, citing risks from high interest rates, energy prices, and foreign capital outflows. Despite this, some sectors show strength; Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical JSC (BSR) is projected to see a massive profit surge of over 700% in Q3, while Vinhomes (VHM) is expected to see significant growth.

The real estate sector is pivoting toward sustainable cash-flow models, with investors favoring projects in coastal tourism hubs. Due to slow credit growth in real estate, developers are increasingly turning to bond issuances for capital, with total bond issuances by real estate firms rising 126% year-on-year to approximately 149.5 trillion VND in the first nine months of the year.
