VN-Index falls below 1,700-point threshold amid market decline

The VN-Index has experienced a significant downturn, marking its seventh consecutive losing session and officially falling below the 1,700-point psychological threshold to close at 1,698.35 points. This decline was driven largely by pressure from large-cap stocks, including VHM and VIC, which weighed heavily on the VN30-Index.

Despite the overall index decline, there has been positive movement in mid-cap and small-cap sectors. Specifically, stocks in the securities, residential real estate, and public investment sectors—such as CII, VCG, HCM, VIX, and SSI—saw increased buying interest. Market liquidity also rose, with trading volume increasing by nearly 20% compared to the 20-session average.

In other markets, SJC gold prices saw a decrease, while the US dollar strengthened following higher-than-expected US inflation data. Additionally, domestic gasoline prices underwent a sharp downward adjustment on October 15.
