Lyon Administrative Court annuls LFI municipal election victories

The Lyon Administrative Court has annulled the municipal election results in Vénissieux and Vaulx-en-Velin, both of which were won by La France Insoumise (LFI) candidates in March 2026. The court ruled that irregularities on competing lists could have compromised the integrity of the votes.

In Vénissieux, the election was invalidated due to fraudulent residency declarations by the RN-UDR list led by Quentin Taïeb, who has been declared ineligible for 24 months. In Vaulx-en-Velin, the annulment stems from a centrist list failing to mention a candidate's Dutch nationality, as required by the electoral code.

LFI mayors Idir Boumertit and Abdelkader Lahmar have both denounced the decisions as unjust, noting that the errors were committed by opposing lists rather than their own. Both parties intend to appeal to the Conseil d’État. A third LFI victory in Saint-Fons is also facing potential annulment following similar recommendations from a public rapporteur regarding irregularities on a competing list.
