An Giang illegal mining case referred to Ministry of Public Security

The Government Inspectorate of Vietnam has referred a case to the Ministry of Public Security regarding the illegal extraction of 2.3 million cubic meters of clay in An Giang province. The unauthorized mining, conducted by the An Giang Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company between 2014 and 2023, spanned an area of 406,600 square meters. Authorities noted signs of criminal violations related to the research, exploration, and extraction of resources.

In addition to the mining case, the inspection revealed widespread mismanagement of public land and housing in An Giang. This includes several state-owned properties being left vacant for years, failure to complete auctions within required timeframes, and instances of land being encroached upon. The inspectorate has recommended that provincial authorities accurately calculate the illegal profits to ensure they are returned to the state budget.

Separately, law enforcement in other regions reported various criminal activities, including the seizure of 20 heroin bricks in Lai Chau province, the dismantling of an illegal border crossing ring for Chinese nationals in Quang Tri, and the prosecution of a group in Thai Nguyen for facilitating over 1,000 trillion VND in gambling transactions via digital banking accounts.
