Criminal and regulatory investigations in An Giang
Overview
Authorities in An Giang province, Vietnam, have addressed multiple large-scale criminal and regulatory violations.
In early October, the Government Inspectorate referred a case to the Ministry of Public Security concerning the illegal extraction of 2.3 million cubic meters of clay by the An Giang Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company between 2014 and 2023. The inspection also uncovered mismanagement of public land and housing, including state-owned properties left vacant and instances of land encroachment.
Following these findings, An Giang Provincial Police prosecuted 96 individuals linked to a transnational gambling and money laundering ring. Led by Nguyen Ngoc Minh Thien, the organization allegedly used rented properties in Phu Quoc and overseas servers to facilitate online gambling. Investigators identified over 327,000 bank accounts used for transactions totaling more than 750 billion VND.
