Vodafone and OXG reach one million fiber-optic homes passed

Vodafone and its infrastructure subsidiary OXG have reached a milestone of one million ‘homes passed’ in their fiber-optic expansion efforts. The companies aim to increase this figure to 1.2 million by the end of the current fiscal year.

In the Ruhr region of Germany, the expansion is specifically targeting approximately 250,000 new connections across cities including Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim, and Unna. OXG utilizes an ‘open access’ model, designed to allow various internet and telephone providers to utilize the infrastructure, thereby increasing competition and consumer choice. While Vodafone will manage marketing exclusively for the first few months, other providers are expected to be able to use the network later.

Additionally, a significant ownership change is underway at OXG. The French bank Société Générale is set to acquire Altice’s 50 percent stake in the company. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approval.
