Vodafone and OXG fibre expansion in Germany

Overview

Societe Generale has agreed to acquire a 50 percent stake in OXG Glasfaser Beteiligungs-GmbH (OXG) from Geodesia Holding. This investment supports the German fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) rollout led by the Vodafone and Altice joint venture, which aims to connect up to 7 million households through an open-access wholesale model. The investment program is estimated to cost approximately €7 billion over six years.

Following the investment announcement, Vodafone and OXG reported reaching a milestone of one million ‘homes passed’ in their expansion efforts. The companies are targeting 1.2 million homes passed by the end of the current fiscal year, with specific focus on the Ruhr region to add approximately 250,000 connections in cities such as Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim, and Unna.

Regarding ownership, the transition involves Societe Generale acquiring the 50 percent stake previously held by Altice. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
