Vodafone calls for DSL phase‑out by 2028 and rolls out low‑latency DOCSIS

Vodafone is urging regulators and competitors to begin phasing out DSL services by 2028 in Germany, arguing that a clear timeline will accelerate the transition to fiber‑to‑the‑home (FTTH) and unlock investment in broadband infrastructure. The proposal comes amid a debate with Deutsche Telekom, which warns that DSL shut‑offs should only occur once comparable fiber coverage is universally available to avoid service gaps and consumer choice concerns.

At the same time, Vodafone announced the deployment of a low‑latency DOCSIS solution, branded as a “Latenz‑Booster,” within its cable‑fiber network. The technology is designed to halve end‑user response times, improving performance for bandwidth‑intensive applications and positioning Vodafone’s hybrid network as a competitive alternative to pure fiber offerings.
