Vodafone expands Gigabit internet to 31 million German households
Vodafone said its Gigabit‑Internet network now reaches 31 million households in Germany, covering roughly three‑quarters of the population. The expansion relies on both cable upgrades and new fiber‑to‑the‑home (FTTH) connections.
In June the company completed 159 modernization measures in its cable network across 63 cities and municipalities, benefitting about 40 000 households with higher capacity and more stable connections. At the same time, Vodafone added 130 000 new FTTH connections to its catalogue, bringing the total number of German households that can order fiber service to 14.8 million.
The joint venture OXG, which operates part of Vodafone’s fiber infrastructure, now markets 1.65 million fiber connections and announced further rollout projects in Hannover and Braunschweig that will serve an additional 30 000 homes. Other local expansions include the Enzkreis, Freiburg‑Hochdorf, Freiburg‑Waltershofen, Umkirch and the Günzburg district.
