Vodafone expands gigabit network to 31.3 million German households

Vodafone has announced that 31.3 million households in Germany can now access gigabit speeds via cable and fiber optic connections. This represents an increase of approximately 300,000 connections compared to the previous month, covering roughly 76 percent of the population.

To enhance network capacity and stability, the company implemented 206 segmentations and 12 fiber-deep measures in July across 72 cities and municipalities. Additionally, 15.2 million households are now able to book pure fiber-optic tariffs. A significant portion of this expansion is driven by the joint venture OXG, which provides infrastructure for more than 2 million Vodafone connections. Recent growth for OXG has been particularly notable in Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, and Wiesbaden.

New expansion projects are also underway in partnership with Meridiam in the Neckar-Odenwald district and Meckenheim, while OXG has initiated new fiber-to-the-building construction in Wiesbaden and Essen.
