Vodafone Greece invests over 1.5 billion euros in next-gen networks

Vodafone Greece has invested over 1.5 billion euros in next-generation telecommunications infrastructure over the last decade. During the Advanced Telecoms Summit 2026, Network Director Nikos Plevris detailed the company’s progress in developing 5G networks, fiber optics, and subsea cables.

The company’s proprietary fiber optic network currently serves more than 620,000 homes and businesses. Following a doubling of active FTTH connections in 2025, Vodafone aims to reach 850,000 FTTH lines by 2027 to align Greece with European broadband averages.

Subsea cable systems remain a strategic priority for data transport resilience. The station in Tympaki, Crete, hosts the 2Africa and India-Europe Xpress (IEX) systems, which connect Europe, Africa, and Asia. Additionally, Vodafone has completed approximately 1,500 kilometers of subsea and terrestrial fiber optic cables across the Aegean and Ionian seas.
