Voepass Flight 2283 De‑icing Failure Confirmed by Cockpit Voice Recorder

On 9 August 2024, a Voepass Embraer 170 crashed while approaching Vinhedo, São Paulo, killing 62 people. The Federal Police released the cockpit‑voice‑recorder transcript, showing the captain comparing the aircraft to a “Fusquinha” (the Herbie car from the classic film) and stating that the de‑icing system was not functioning.

The recording also reveals a series of ice‑formation alerts, the crew’s discussion of altitude changes to avoid further icing, and a failure to execute the manufacturer’s required procedure to leave the icy area.
