Voepass crash investigation: President indicted and Anac safety concerns raised

Investigations into the 2024 Voepass plane crash in Vinhedo, which killed 62 people, have led to the indictment of 16 individuals, including company president José Luiz Felício Filho. While Felício Filho’s defense claims he was unaware of ongoing technical communication failures and was not involved in daily operations at the time of the accident, the Federal Police report asserts he had full knowledge of serious fleet maintenance issues and was responsible for responding to regulatory notices.

Parallel investigations have scrutinized the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). Evidence suggests Anac ignored warnings from an inspector as early as 2020 regarding the potential use of irregular or improperly controlled aircraft components. The inspector, who raised concerns about parts from a 2016 accident being reused, was subsequently dismissed following a disciplinary process. The Federal Police have also referred the matter to Anac’s internal affairs to investigate potential corruption or prevarication within the agency.
