VPP dismisses BJP’s growing strength in Meghalaya Assembly

The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has dismissed the growing strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit stated that the BJP’s increase from two to 10 MLAs, following the entry of eight former UDP legislators, does not necessarily reflect popular support in the state.

Basaiawmoit suggested that political expansion in the Assembly could be driven by financial investment rather than voter mandate. He expressed confidence that voters in Meghalaya would continue to reject the BJP in general elections.

Additionally, the VPP president reiterated his party’s firm opposition to any central government moves to undertake or expand uranium mining activities within Meghalaya.
