Volksbank launches new apprenticeship cohorts in Cologne, Bonn and Haltern

The Volksbank Köln Bonn branch began its 2026 apprenticeship programme with 24 new trainees from the Cologne, Bonn and Rhein‑Sieg area. The cohort is evenly split between men and women and includes candidates with both Abitur and Realschulabschluss qualifications, a response to the regional “Abi‑Lücke” caused by the transition from G8 to G9 schooling. Bank officials highlighted the inclusive approach, saying, “We want to offer young talents with different educational backgrounds a real perspective.”

In the neighbouring Westmünsterland region, four young people from Haltern started their training at the local Volksbank. They were welcomed by board member Dr. Carsten Düerkop and senior staff including Silvia Linke and Michaela Potthoff. The apprentices received a surprise welcome on their first day, marking the start of their careers in banking.
