Volkswagen and Bosch dissolve Automated Driving Alliance, retain Level‑2 AI system

Volkswagen Group’s software unit Cariad and Bosch have terminated their Automated Driving Alliance (ADA) ahead of the original 2029 expiry. Both parties cited the partnership’s inability to quickly achieve SAE Level 3 autonomy, deeming the collaboration uncompetitive for further development. The joint effort produced an AI‑based Level 2 driver‑assistance system, which will be incorporated into Volkswagen’s upcoming ID Every1 electric city car slated for series production in 2027 and may be used across other vehicle classes.

While the alliance ends, Cariad and Bosch retain shared intellectual property and data, allowing each to continue deploying the technology independently. Volkswagen is reportedly exploring new partners such as Mobileye and the UK start‑up Wayve to advance its automated‑driving ambitions.
