Volkswagen Argentina hits 800,000 Amarok pickups, eyes 2027 model launch

Volkswagen Argentina marked the production of its 800,000th Amarok pickup at the General Pacheco plant, an achievement that underscores the model’s status as the most produced vehicle in the country’s automotive history. About 60% of the units built in Argentina have been exported to 102 international markets, positioning the plant as a key global hub for the midsize pickup segment. CEO Marcellus Puig said the milestone reflects the commitment of the company’s workforce and its customers. The current Amarok generation is slated for discontinuation by the end of the year, with a new generation scheduled for sale in March‑April 2027.

The upcoming Amarok will be developed using the Maxus Interstellar X platform from China’s SAIC, an ally of Volkswagen. Spy photos show a familiar front grille and a high-roof cab‑over‑bed design derived from the Maxus, while retaining distinct VW styling cues. The new model may also offer electrified power‑train options, although detailed specifications have not yet been released.
