In early July 2026, Volkswagen Argentina marked the 800,000th Amarok produced at the General Pacheco plant, noting the model’s status as Argentina’s most‑produced vehicle and that roughly 60 % of units are exported to 102 markets. The current diesel‑only generation will be discontinued by year‑end, with a new generation slated for launch in March‑April 2027 on SAIC’s Maxus Interstellar X platform and an electrified power‑train strategy.

Later in July, Volkswagen reiterated that the existing Amarok will stay diesel‑only until the Ford partnership ends, and that a third‑generation redesign expected around 2029‑2030 will introduce both plug‑in hybrid and fully electric variants. The company is also weighing a shift of production to China, where a SAIC‑based model could replace the Amarok in South America after the current agreement expires.

At the end of July, Volkswagen launched limited‑edition Amarok models. In Argentina, the V6 Unlimited edition (500 numbered units) features a 3.0‑litre V6 turbo‑diesel delivering 258 hp and 580 Nm, an eight‑speed automatic, 4Motion all‑wheel drive and exclusive styling, with deliveries slated for September. In Greece, the PanAmericana edition offers a 2.4‑litre V6 TDI (240 hp, 600 Nm) and enhanced off‑road capability. Production of the current generation will continue through 2024 before the 2027‑based, electrified successor arrives.
