Volkswagen, Audi, and Skoda recall millions of vehicles over steering defect

Volkswagen, Audi, and Skoda are conducting massive global vehicle recalls affecting millions of cars due to a potential steering system defect. The issue involves a fastening bolt in the steering assembly that may be susceptible to corrosion from moisture and road salt exposure over several years.

In a worst-case scenario, the corroded bolt could crack, leading to a loss of steering control. While the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) reports no injuries or accidents related to this defect thus far, the recalls are being treated as a critical preventive measure.

Volkswagen is recalling approximately 2.16 million vehicles, including models such as the Golf, Tiguan, Touran, and Caddy produced between September 2013 and July 2024. Audi is recalling roughly 696,500 Q3 models manufactured between October 2017 and May 2024. Additionally, Skoda is recalling over 1.7 million vehicles, including the Octavia, Superb, Karoq, and Kodiaq, due to similar risks.
